When Naming Squidoo Lenses - Use Hyphens.

By: Dave

It’s generally confirmed in SEO (Search Engine Optimization) circles that Google and other search engines are more likely to accurately index a URL that contains hyphens as opposed to underscores. So, if you want to build a lens on say foam rubber yoga mats - and squidoo.com/foamrubberyogamats is taken - you’re better off using:

  •  squidoo.com/foam-rubber-yoga-mats
  • and NOT squidoo.com/foam_rubber_yoga_mats

According to Google engineer Matt Cutts: “Google doesn’t algorithmically penalize for dashes in the url.” So if your perfect lens name is already taken, don’t fret. You heard it straight from the horse’s mouth. The underscore is dead! Long live the hyphen.

Interesting. I prefer to ‘type’ hyphen then shift and type underscores anyway. Save some ’shifting’ :)

I think hyphens are best because they are more easily read and remembered by human visitors. I have around 15 domains and 20 blogs all with hyphenated names which also make it easier for me to remember.
I’ve added them all to my Google Notebook just to be sure.

interesting, I don’t normally like to use hypens or dashes. I prefer to think of another name or other words, maybe in the future I will reconsider after reading this.
