Coming Real Soon - Paid Links in Squidoo Lenses.

By: Dave

Squidoo lenses that I built back in October already have 5/10 Google Page Ranks, which is the minimum that the acceptance algorithms of many text link brokers will accept into their network. Several lenses are getting considerable traffic every day, and it’s only a matter of time until SEO pros start contacting prevalent lensmasters. How will it work? I have a few ideas…

Initially it will likely be on a one-off basis, as Squidoo does not allow any of the scripting technologies that the major brokers use to automate their processes. A PR heavy lens will be found that is relevant to an optimizer’s client, an email is sent to the lensmaster and then some money exchanges hands via PayPal. This is going to start happening a lot, and as long as lenses remain fairly objective and faithful to their topics - I don’t see this as a bad thing. In fact, it’s sorta been affecting my new lens subject matter as of late.

10% or smaller affiliate commissions, after Squidoo takes their cut, end up woefully small by the time they get to lensmasters. So I predict that ultimately one-way link sales will well eclipse any Amazon, eBay or CafePress revenues for people who stick with their Squidoo development. So keep at it, stay patient, and I think we’ll all be making some money real soon.

    Dave, we’ve said this before but I think your posting brings up the conversation about lens value again. If you’re a lensmaster and you think you are going to get rich by selling stuff only on lenses you’ll be very disappointed. On the other hand, if you are using the lens as a part of a greater SEM and online marketing strategy then you will find some peace. The value of the lens is in the credibility it brings to your knowledge, online presence and page rank. These are some of the essential criteria to building trust with your potential customer base. Trust is key and the lenses certainly make you a little more real in a scary virtual marketplace.

    I am still experimenting on what I can do with squidoo…. This is very new to me and
    there is so much to learn. What I do like is that I can make a comprehensive lense in a very short time.

    Hey Quick Question;

    What is the best way for you to get your Squidoo Lens spidered as quickly as possible. Also related to this (but understand if you dont want to divulge your secret sauce) is how you went about getting the PR so high - was it primarily through having other sites, blogs, etc. point to it?

    Thanks,

    Doug

    Doug, the fastest way to get indexed (or spidered) is to do nothing. The search engines typically find and index your lens in about 2 - 3 days, although sometimes longer. The best way to get page rank is to get incoming links to your lens. Make sure your content is solid and relevant though.

    As a newcomer to Squidoo which is a fantastic idea. I’m learning all I can and look foward to seeing what this platform can really do;-)
